04.30 - Introductions & Jumping to Conclusions

We began class today with a partner critique of the introductions everyone wrote for homework. People who did not have an introduction ready for class were provided with an introduction to critique, but were not able to get the benefit of a peer critique for their introduction. Our process for this part of class was as follows:

For homework, everyone should have a polished introduction  added to their future exploration paper for Friday.

In the second part of our class today our focus was on conclusions: what goes into them and what makes them effective. Similar to our work with introductions, we began with what people already knew about conclusions and used those understandings to evaluate a conclusion (see quickwrite below). From here, we reviewed key elements of a conclusion and then evaluated sample conclusions and discussed them via a polar opposites activity (see slideshow, slides, and handouts below).
